{"id":57,"date":"2009-04-23T15:03:27","date_gmt":"2009-04-23T20:03:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pierrekiroule.com\/?p=57"},"modified":"2009-04-27T09:34:40","modified_gmt":"2009-04-27T14:34:40","slug":"crystal-reports-xi-and-open-text-bi-851-pros-and-cons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pierrekiroule.com\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"Crystal Reports XI and Open Text BI 8.5.1 pros and cons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ll revise this post regularly based on my findings and experience.<\/p>\n<p>Items in this list may only show my inability to perform a specific action with one solution, which at least means that there is a usability issue with it \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h3>Crystal Reports XI:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>+ Formula Editor<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; No permanent data model: a new data model needs to be recreated each time I create a new report<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; No ability to work on results and combine them together<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">No ability to aggregate on the server: I didn&#8217;t find for instance how to create the following statement:<\/span> With the help of Paul&#8217;s comment, I was able to find how this works in Crystal: you need to turn the &#8220;Perfrom Grouping on Server&#8221;\u00a0 option for both the report AND the general option. [cc lang=&#8221;sql&#8221;]select count(my_field) from my_table[\/cc]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Open Text BI 8.5.1:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211; Doesn&#8217;t support multiple outer joins with SQL ODBC connection<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Can&#8217;t report on a table named &#8220;users&#8221;\u00a0 with SQL ODBC<\/li>\n<li>+ Can work with results and create complex &#8220;super queries&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ll revise this post regularly based on my findings and experience.
